OPI Touring America Swatches

Sunday, July 24, 2011 9

Today I have swatched 6 out of the 12 colors available in the OPI Touring America Fall 2011 collection.

In the next few days I will do swatch comparisons for these 6 polishes, I don't really have anything that is a dupe for these colors.  This Fall 2011 collection is more of a creme focused collection ( there is a tiny hint of shimmer in about 4 of the polishes).  People were wondering why there were such bright colors part of the Fall collection....I think that they added the bright colors to help transition from summer to fall.  Start off with the bright colors then slowly get dustier and darker colors.

Please note that I color corrected my photos to make sure that they give an accurate representation of the OPI colors...but I do realize that different computer monitors do have different color settings :( Sorry, I tried my best for you guys.

 1. The first polish is Road House Blues.  This took 2 coats. It is a very dark blue creme...indigo.

 2. The second swatch is A-Taupe the Space Needle.  This took me 3 coats to get it even.  A lot of people say it is taupe...a brown with grey in it..to me it is more of a chocolate brown..I don't really see the grey in it.

 3. The 3rd swatch is Get In The Expresso Lane. This took 3 coats to make it even.  This brown is so dark it almost looks black in certain lights. I think that the name was a very good name for this polish....it is the color of coffee beans.

 4. Color 4 is French Quarter For Your Thoughts.  3 coats to even out the application.  This is a concrete/ elephant-Dumbo grey.  :) This is a very safe fall creme.

 5. Color 5 is I Eat Mainely Lobster.  This needed 3 coats.  This is a fun coral color to transition from summer to fall.  There is a hint of gold micro shimmer in it. You can see it in the bottle picture if you click on the picture.

 6. Color 6 is my favorite color from the collection. It is Uh-Oh Roll Down The Window. This is a dusky milary camo green.  I think it is gorgeous. It took 4 coats to even out. At 1 coat it looked like pea soup, not very attractive but with more color build up/ coats it became gorgeous.

Make up before and after

4

I thought it would be fun to do a make up before and after post.  This post is dedicated to http://gosh-makeup.blogspot.com/ because she did a no make up post a few months back and I was really inspired by her to do my own.

I actually don't really wear make up because I work in a very hot sweaty lab so at the end of the day I look super gross...when you add on the melting makeup it just isn't attractive.

When I was first hired I would straighten my hair and apply eyeshadow and eyeliner and foundation and concealer... but after realizing what kind of environment I work in I decided to give up the make up...also my straightening iron broke :o(

In the pictures I have eyeshadow and eyeliner on.

Left With make up, Right without

I'm in my mid 20's....although most of the time I just look like a teenager.  I think make up makes me look much more mature.

Also...I'm going to the International Makeup Artist Trade show in Vancouver so I'm super excited and getting pumped for it..it's next week. I'm hoping to pick up so Obsessive compulsive cosmetics nail polish (I thought they were coming to the show...but now their name is pulled off the exhibitor list...I hope they show up)

I haven't been super impressed with the 2011 nail polish collections but I saw the china glaze 2011 halloween haunting collection...and I REALLY REALLY want it.

The number of nail polish posts have dwindled because I am on a huge no buy... I haven't bought nail polish for 4 months ...but two days ago I bought 2 polishes....china glaze sexagon and let's do it in 3d :o)

Eyeliner comparisions

Sunday, July 3, 2011 10

I have been having the toughest time finding the number 1 eyeliner that does not smudge on me.  I think that it is the shape of my eye that is causing my eyeliner to always smudge after ~20 minutes...this leaves me with sad panda eyes :(

I have collected quite a few different eyeliners so I thought I would do a comparison for you guys

Left to right: L'Oreal Super Liner, Coastal Scents, Bobbi Brown, MAC, MAC, Stila

This is L'Oreal Super Liner in Brown. It has a sponge tip

This is Coastal Scents gel liner in Truffle

This is Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel eyeliner in Espresso Ink, dark dark brown you can call it a light black

MAC fluidline Blitz and Glitz, a black with micro fine gold shimmer in it

MAC fluidline black track, plain black

This is Stila Stay All Day Waterproof liquid eye liner, Carbon Black

This is what it looks like when first applied.
Left to Right: Loreal, coastal scents, bobbi brown, MAC blitz and glitz, MAC blacktrack, Stila
In this picture I tried to smear the bottom with my finger

I ran my hand under the facet

While wet, I rubbed my finger over the eyeliner to check the waterproofness of the liners.  This is the top smudge

This is after 2 swipes with makeup remover

Please note:all the liners are about the same age give or take 1-2 months. I always close my gel liners after I use them right away, I never leave them exposed and open.

Quick Conclusion:
Ranking from best to worst: Stila, MAC, Coastal Scents, Bobbi Brown, Loreal
Smuding is STILL occuring...just less with Stila and MAC

Super long detailed conclusion:
  1. Loreal: The L'Oreal Super Liner was the weakest eyeliner I tried. When I first applied the color, the color was not very strong at all. Over time the color just faded to nothing really.
  2. Coastal Scents: I found that the Coastal Scent liner in the jar dried up very quickly compared to the other liners in jars.  When you look at the block of liner in the jar you could tell that it had dried up and shrunk slightly in size (the product pulled away from the sides) so it didn't glide onto the brush as easily as the other liners. I do like this liner...but it might be because of the color. When I wear it and it smudges under my eye  it's not as noticeable as the other eyeliners because it smudges as a light brown versus black smudging.  It's a cheap alright liner.
  3. Bobbi Brown: This liner is not as soft as the MAC liners (application wise), it also isn't as waterproof as the MAC, Stila, or coastal scents liner.  I don't think that it is worth its price ~$21.  It doesn't do much.  I guess the only nice thing about the liner is that it comes in several different shades.
  4. MAC eyeliner: blitz and glitz versus black track. They are pretty much the same color, you don't really need both of them.  The micro gold shimmer in blitz and glitz is barely noticeable. Some people say that the shimmer dust in blitz and glitz irritates their eyes...so be warned if you have sensitive eyes!  What I like about this liner is that a little goes a VERY long way.  A small dab and you're good.  It dries matte, still minor smudging happening.
  5. Stila: my all time favorite eyeliner.  $20...I would purchase again and again.  It lasts forever on me...not much panda eye smudging happening.  There is still a tiny bit of smudging but not as bad as the other liners.  It is very black...but the black dries shiny so if you wanted a more matte eyeliner I wouldn't purchase this one.
So do you guys have any recommendations for eyeliners?
