BB COUTURE!!!!!!

Thursday, May 31, 2012 0

I have always loved purple...my room is purple, my clothes, my jewellery, everything...and now after discovering the shades of purple that BB Couture offers? I am in love with purple all over again. It's like when you know you love chocolate and then you try a new brand of chocolate and it tastes even better...how can that be??

Here are the colors I am reviewing today:

From left to right we have: John Smith, Dirty Blonde, Dirty Mother, Gluttony, Belle Starr, Beetle Bailey
***I know John Smith, Dirty Blonde, Dirty Mother are not purples...but I had to have them.

One thing unique about BB Couture is that it is a 4 in 1 polish....a base coat, top coat, nail strengthener, and color.  I did not use base coats or top coats in any of the following pictures.

The first color I have to review is Belle Star.  This is part of the Wilde Wild West Collection. My favorite thing about the BB Couture bottles is that on top of the lids there is a label that tells you what collection the color comes from and underneath the bottle there is a label that tells you the name of the color.

Belle Star

I used two coats to obtain full coverage.  Unfortunately my photos don't show it but there is a slight purple shimmer in the polish. It is a cream purple (blue based) with a hint of purple shimmer.  It applied smoothly and did not drag.

The next color we have is Beetle Bailey from the Carlas Ladybugs collection.

Once again this color only needed two coats. This is a red based purple, a maroon polish.  This polish also has fine shimmer in it and once again applied buttery smooth.

the next polish is Gluttony from the Sinfully Polished Collection.

Gluttony was three coats as I had difficulty applying the first two coats evenly...this may have been me since this was near the end of my swatching day.  This is similar to Beetle Bailey but with more red in it.  It is once again a cream polish with very faint shimmer, fainter than Beetle Bailey and Belle Star. Beetle Bailey and Belle Star have  purple shimmer, Gluttony seems to have silver? Clear? shimmer.

Next up is  my favorite polish from BB Couture: Dirty Mother from the Cantina Nights Collection.

This is a FANTASTIC color! A dusty pink that applies very smoothly and only needs two coats.  I was so in awe with this color that I haven't used it since I swatched it because I don't want to ever run out. I never buy backup polishes but I may have to for this one.  It is a very versatile color. It works for the workplace and also as an everyday going out color.  This is a color that should be in everyone's polish collection

Now we are onto the taupes/ beiges/ greiges.

I don't own any beiges....out of my 300+ bottles of polish nothing. Odd eh?

So..we have my very first taupe/ beige Dirty Blonde from the Eye Candy Collection. I like the name for this polish :)

I used three coats. This is a taupe that is orange based. It is a cream polish and applies smoothly just like the other cream polishes.  What I liked was the coverage of the polish...although it took three coats, I think I may have been able to get away with two coats.  I think this color would look great with leopard prints :)

Lastly, we have John Smith from the Infamous Lovers collection.

I think I would call this color a greige.  A grey beige.  I only needed two coats from this polish. You might be wondering why it is a square bottle...it is because it is from the specially formulated just for men collection...which I believe just has more nail hardeners.  This is a very pretty color and who cares if it's from then men collection. I'm still wearing it!

So....some things to take with you now that this blog post is done:

1. None of these pictures had top coat on them yet my nails are still shiney shiney
2. You don't need a top coat or base coat for BB Couture polishes
3. You need Dirty Mother
4. you can purchase the polishes here:  http://bbnailpolish.com/

Pure Ice~Vinyl Remix~Swatches and Review

0

This is going to be a fun post.  Bari Cosmetics sent me 4 colors from the new Pure Ice collection "Vinyl Remix". This is a remix on crackle polish.

These polishes comes in a set of 2, you get a crackle/ color and the Platinum white Base Coat.

Along with each set you get a cute vinyl record file. (Do we remember records? I have some records somewhere...)

What I like about these files is that I can easily toss them in my purse and I'll always have a file with me for nail emergencies.

Here are the instructions for the polish:

So I started with the Platinum Base Coat on my nail wheel:

Then I applied the Vinyl Remix to the base coat.  I had purple "Vintage Remix", yellow "Emcee Me" , green "DJ Spinner", and orange "Rave" so I did four nails of each color but with different designs.

Do you see what happened when I applied the vinyl remix polish?
The vinyl remix polish is black. Usually with crackle what happens is that you apply you crackle, the polish cracks and what you see between the cracks is your base coat color. So....if this was a normal crackle you would apply the vinyl remix and it would crack and you would get black crackle and underneath/ in the cracks it would be white..but HOLD UP!!!  the colors between the cracks in this case isn't white.  Depending on which black Vinyl remix you get you get different colors.  The base coat white never shows up.

This is a pretty neat remix for crackle, I honestly have no idea how it works.

You can check out more pics of the Vinyl Remix collection on the Bari Cosmetics Facebook Page or the Pure Ice Website HERE

Review on Barielle Polishes

1

Barielle sent me some fantastic polishes to review on my blog

Left to Right we have: Cosmic Kiss, Star Child, Sky's The Limit, Platinum Ring, Ultra Speed Top coat, Nail Rebuilding Protein Base coat

First we have is Sky's The Limit. I used two coats, you could easily get away with one coat.  This is a foil/shimmer Sapphire blue polish.  This polish doesn't show any brush strokes so that's A++.

I added one coat of Star Child on top of Sky's the Limit.  What I like about Star Child is that you don't have to try to get the silver hexagon glitter out of the bottle, a good amount comes out with the brush.  The silver pieces are all holographic so it has a rainbow flash to it. I think Star Child is a very good name for this polish.

The Next polish we have is Cosmic Kiss. I am not a huge fan of pink and I didn't think I would love it but.. I love love love it!!! it's a pink jelly polish! It took me 3 coats to sort of get opacity..you can still slightly see my nail line. I wish Barielle made more colors in this jelly finish.

Next we have Platinum Ring. This is a silver foil/ shimmer polish. It is very shiney and glittery, it took three coats to be opaque.  It doesn't show brush strokes so I'm pretty happy with it. Sally Hansen might have a dupe to this polish "Celeb City" I'll have to dig it out and compare.

Lastly Barielle sent me two nail conditioners. Well.. I don't know if they are called nail conditioners... a top coat and a base coat.

Ultra Speed Dry Manicure Extender and Nail Rebuilding Protein

My go to top coat is Seche Vite. I really like Seche Vite because it drys really fast and it provides a very shiny top coat...unfortunately it isn't 3 Free.  I used Barielle's Ultra Speed Dry Manicure Extender for one month and I adore it. It is a great substitute for Seche vite because it dries just as fast and leaves a very shiny top coat. Best of all it doesn't cause the polish to shrink!!!!! A problem I have with Seche Vite is that once it dries up it causes my nail polish to shrink so I would see my nail edge with no polish on it. Barielle's top coat does not do that so yippe!!

I keep changing base coats since I haven't found a base coat that prevents my nails from chipping. I have used Nubar Nu nails, OPI nail envy, Seche Vite Rebuild. So far I have used Barielle's base coat for two weeks and I am quite pleased with it. I used it under my manicure. I use two coats then I applied my colored nail polish on top. I will update in two weeks time on whether it has helped prevent any chipping on my nails.

ps : Barielle also sent me an adorable shoe key chain so I have been using that on my house key that I use when I go running. Shoe = running so I'll always remember the key :)
